Qualifications and Career

John has a first class honours degree in law from Victoria University of Wellington. In 1987 he was awarded the Chapman Tripp prize for top law graduate. He won the Victoria University of Wellington mooting competition in 1985. John was admitted to the bar in 1986.

He joined the national law firm Kensington Swan in 1986 and was a partner of that firm  for 20 years from early 1993 to late 2012.

He went to the independent bar to practice as a barrister sole in October 2012, joining Bankside Chambers one of the leading sets of barristers' chambers in New Zealand.
